Drawing influences from his brutal experiences, along with gothic-, funeral- and melancholic doom metal, Morten Søbyskogens project Death of Giants has created a powerful and atmospheric debut album “Ventesorg” tributing his late wife, Sandra.
These combined influences creates a special mix of melancholy, heaviness and dynamic which represents how it is to live with the expected death of a loved one.
This concept album is built on a semi-chronological narrative, from Sandras cancer diagnosis to her tragic death.
The title of the album describes accurately what the album portraits through its melancholic gothic doom atmosphere:
It conveys the journey from a long distance relationship between Austria and Norway, the bond of two families, a wedding shaded by the overwhelming shadow of cancer and the inevitable outcome 3.5 years later.

Death of Giants decided to take an opportunity in between songwriting and other planning to spread some grief and melancholy at this years Wacken Metal Battle in Oslo!
Death of Giants are excited forward to bring our melancholic doom metal to Skien for the 2023 edition of Skien Metal Fest!
Death of Giants, the new melancholic doom metal project by Morten Søbyskogen, will release their debut album “Ventesorg” 12th May, and together with Rock In, are excited to invite you all to a special release concert at Rockin saturday 20th May.
This release concert will also be a memorial concert for Mortens wife, Sandra. 20th May is a special date, as it was on this day in 2018 Sandra passed away,31 years old, after living with brain cancer for 3.5 years. Ventesorg is an album about this journey, living with anticipatory grief and following your loved one from diagnosis to their passing.
For this special occasion Death of Giants will play a set consisting of the the songs from “Ventesorg” mixed in with additional cover songs fitting the theme and concept.
We hope you will take part in this experience with us, regardless if you knew Sandra or not, all are welcome to join us for an evening with dark melancholic doom metal. The album, available as digipack and cassette will be possible to buy at the concert, along with merch. A part of the sales will also be donated to the brain cancer foundation, as Sandra would have wanted.
